LEGENDS
The story of Vaikuntha so far...
In Vaikuntha, outworlders were retrieved from the Dream Width at the frequency of about one being every ten or so years. Ten years prior to the events of Melodies of Eternity, an unprecedented two outworlders -Biggs and Wedge- arrived together. They were received by the Curti Center, and joined the team of researchers who monitor the signals from the Dream Width and retrieve items that arrive from other worlds.
In April of our year 2018, something completely unheard of happened. Rather than a single life signal, the Curti Center’s scanners picked up over 50. The team retrieved the outworlders, and gave them all temporary quarters at the Curti Center.
Although no one knew why so many outworlders had appeared at once, the staff did their best to help the arrivals adjust to their new home, even hiring some locals to help deal with the influx of people on their little island. The new arrivals were taken on a World Tour to choose Job Asterisks and gain the ability to use skills.
The next month, the outworlders helped retrieve another batch of new arrivals, and experienced the Dream Width’s memory nebulas as they rescued them. While there, some experienced Dreams from an unknown source: A Dream of a Goddess Past, a Nightmare that unlocked the Warlock asterisk, and a Premonition of worldwide destruction.
They later put their new skills to the test battling Chocobo Eaters to protect the chocobo population of Vaikuntha.
In June, the outworlders went on a tour of Ka’Pandol’s blitzball arena and the city flooded. The outworlders split into groups and followed their guide, Pharce, into the Lost Temple of Leviathan. There they completed the temple trials and unlocked a new Eidolon (ousting the false Eidolon of Water, Ultros, in the process).
The outworlders were invited by the Von Oktavian Triumvirate to participate in the Golsaucian Gauntlet. The winner of the gauntlet was Adrien. Some outworlders also battled against the mysterious Moogles of Light. It was a very strange day.
The next month, the outworlders helped track down and stop a moogle killer on Friday the 13th. Thanks to their intervention, the moogle camp counselors were saved??? and the Mog-Jason was stopped...for now.
In an effort to help the outworlders adapt to their new world and bond with the natives of Vaikuntha, (and because nothing traumatic had just happened at a campsite) the Curti Center extended the invitation for all residents and guests in the Center to come to their yearly Team Building Retreat.
In August, the Sen Devadatta Empire opened its borders to allow a delegation, including the outworlders and natives of the Curti Center, to enter as part of the Festival of Light celebration. The delegation was able to explore the empire, and gained access to some new Job Guilds. Information was unlocked that allowed Ganeshan to develop Custom Jobs to help Outworlders unlock their former powers. The Monster Arena Guy was also encountered, which later unlocked the Monster Arena side quest center.
The outworlders and native helpers were invited to dinner with the Empress. Encountering the Empress had the strange effect of awakening memories of previous lives in the natives. The Empress explained her reasoning for opening the borders once more- a summoning of the Legendary Eidolon, Bahamut, had begun, and if it is not stopped, the world will be destroyed. She explained that Bahamut, Lord of the Eidolons, had become infused with the power of the Goddess of Death, Kalki, transforming him into the Calamity-Harbinger. She predicted the summoning ritual would be complete between March and May of the following year, and offered some of the Empire’s resources to help the delegation find a solution. As they parted, she named the group of Natives and Outworlders the “Heroes of Light” and tasked them with the legacy of defeating the Goddess of Death, as the old Heroes of Light had done in old Vaikunthan legend.
Following their visit to the Empire, Ganeshan was able to create the groundwork for Custom Job development. The Heroes spent a better part of September testing their new Jobs in the Curti Center lab and searching for materials in various mines across Vaikuntha.
In October, Vaikuntha saw a sudden increase in ghostly activity. Several Heroes took it upon themselves to help the lost spirits find peace. On the 15th, they received a strange letter calling them out to an old doll museum near Thilmit Border Post, which had been taken over by possessed dolls modeled after past Heroes of Light. Once the curator of the museum was rescued, it became clear that the dolls had been tricked to attack the Heroes by King Moggle Mog. The evil king was defeated, but managed to escape in the body of a moogle doll.
In between the ghost problems, a group of Heroes explored Sakura Forest, where an unknown Eidolon was rumored to reside.
At the start of November, the Heroes investigated the ruins underneath the Mad'ni Shrine and discovered the lost temple of Phoenix, one of the Legendary Eidolons. Completing the temple's trials unlocked Phoenix for Summoner Job's supreme skill. Phoenix's chamber also held a painting of Mystearica Aura Fende, one of the four Heroes from Vaikuntha's creation legend.
Shortly after, Ashelia sought the help of her fellow Heroes in escorting a shipment. Their airship was attacked by pirates, but the Heroes were able to free themselves and fought to reclaim the cargo.
Meanwhile, Orcelito was able to gain permission from the Empire to visit the Crystal Temple in Sen Devadatta, where the ruins of Bahamut's Temple had been found. Inside the temple, the Heroes found a map of the world that marked the locations for each Legendary Eidolon: Phoenix in Mad'ni Shrine, Asura in the I.B. Magitek Tower, Alexander in the Great McGard Library and Zodiark on an island where Cloud City had once been.
Near the end of the month, the Heroes set out to the Uncharted Territories in search for Hades. The expedition nearly met an untimely end in the snowstorms, but they were rescued by a friendly tribe who gave them shelter and a means to traverse the harsh terrain relatively safely.
In December, the Heroes took off to the Dream Width in their search for answers. After navigating one another's memories, they found themselves within a void where they heard the voice of the Malevolent Entity from their previous Dream Width trip; a voice which Castor now recognized as the Cloud of Darkness. According to the Entity, Bahamut was merely a tool to bring about the True Calamity that would end all existence. Though the Heroes tried to challenge the Entity, they were easily defeated and forcibly given the Warlock Job, from here on known as Calamity Knight. The Heroes returned to Vaikuntha on the brink of death.
On Starlight Eve, several Heroes were visited by the Ghosts of Starlight Past, Starlight Present, and Starlight Yet To Come. The Ghost of Starlight Past showed the Heroes memories from their pasts; the Ghost of Starlight Present showed them the citizens of Vaikuntha celebrating that night. The Ghost of Starlight Yet To Come showed them visions of Vaikuntha's destruction, should they fail to stop Bahamut. However, the third ghost's true identity was revealed to be the mysterious little girl who had been seen appearing before newcomers months prior, going by the pseudonym "Ashelia". She told the Heroes that Bahamut's summoner was acting out of pain and sadness, and that in order to save Vaikuntha the Heroes must form a bond with it.
