MELODIES

Melodies function like the typical Limit Breaks in Final Fantasy games, enabling characters to use a desperation move when their health falls dangerously low.

Melodies are crafted by the players and draws on their characters' real powers. For example, Sephiroth would be able to use the shortened version of Supernova as his Melody. While the players can craft the Melody, the characters will not have a say in what their Melody is. A Melody can be used only once per day (every 24 hours). It should be more powerful than a 1000 EXP skill, but less powerful than a 3000 EXP skill.

Characters who did not have powers back home can still have a Melody. It should be based around the theme of what their canon was all about, it should be inspired by what they went through and what their character is all about. You are invited to be creative to design it! See below for some examples.

Native OCs are able to use Melodies as well. However, they must first regain two of their memories before they can unlock their Melody. Future events will give more occasions for regaining memories, and trips to the Dream Width can also be used to regain memories.

Melodies have four levels. Characters start with a Level 1 Melody. Upon maxing a Job, their Melody will become level 2. Upon maxing two Jobs, it will become level 3. And upon maxing three Jobs, it will become level 4. The Level doesn't affect what the Melody is, but affects its power and area of attack. A Level 4 Melody is roughly twice as powerful as a Level 1 Melody.

When using a Melody, the characters will feel different. They are people who don't belong to this world and they adapt to it. But for a couple seconds, things work the other way around. While your characters still don't belong, it will feel as though the world is now adapting to them, rather than the other way around. Rather than being under the influence of Vaikuntha, they will influence Vaikuntha. A very abstract sensation, to say the least.

Characters who will make a Custom Job can opt to make their Melody into a Supreme Skill. It comes with drawbacks: your character will no longer be able to use their Melody nor will they be able to learn another Supreme Skill. However, they will be able to utilize their true power with fewer limitations that way.

Examples

Harry Potter (Harry Potter): Expecto Patronum - summons a white ghostly stag that pursues all enemies and deals holy damage.

Aerith (FFVII): White Wind - heals all party members and cures all status ailments. Amount of HP recovered grows with each level.

Duster (Mother 3): 16 Hit Combo - Duster attacks one enemy and strikes it 16 times with powerful kicks. One of those attacks has the potential to be a critical hit that can knock a weak enemy out of the battlefield.

Santa (999): Soporil - Santa reaches into a cargo pocket and pulls out a canister of Soporil, the miracle anesthetic gas. Santa opens the canister and throws it like a grenade. The enemies (and any allies in range) fall asleep, allowing Santa to escape. Depending on the exposure to the gas, the affected parties may experience temporary amnesia about the encounter when they awaken.

Nanami Kiryuu (Revolutionary Girl Utena): Last Evolution - Nanami (inadvertently) summons a large number of wild animals, which are intent on chasing her. She runs past the enemy, causing physical damage to all enemies and giving her a haste effect.

Monkey D Luffy (One Piece): GEARS – Heightens his speed, agility, strength, and energy tenfold, allowing him to move at a speed greater than the blink of an eye and pummel steel as if it were paper thin. Depending on the level he uses, it will either leave him paralyzed or shrunken to the size of a small child. The duration of this drawback is equal to the length of time he uses the ability, however he can only ever use the ability for a max of five turns.
